5 Weeks Soldier

Sorry for not updating in such a long time but NS has been really busy for me and I booked out on 2 saturdays consecutively so the weekends ain't enough for me to enjoy.

Not much happened really. Monday was urban ops. It was quite fun. We had to go in groups of 3 and clear rooms and windows. It felt like Counter-Strike really, but with kick ass graphics and a 4D experience. The gunpowder smoke when you shoot, makes your eyes tear up and the recoil that kicks into your shoulder blade. Saw the thunderflash in operation too. REALLY FUCKING LOUD.

1..2..Room Cleared!

Tuesday was a relaxed day for us to rest for our Wed, Thu, Fri fieldcamp so nothing to talk about here.

Field camp: Overall, it was quite shag for me. We learnt how to move around in a forest and what to do when contacted by enemy. Saw some low flares which were really awesome-ly bright. Shot so many blank rounds that my right ear went deaf for half a day and I went around pissing people asking them to repeat what they just said into my left ear. Saw and smelt smoke grenade in action too.

The combat rations makes you constipate. But on my third and last day, we were allowed to cook maggi. So I quickly cooked it. You would want to cook your maggi only on your last day, because the maggi would flush out your shit. The combat rations are really heng suay. You wouldn't know which ones are nice or not. But overall, the desserts are the tasty ones.

Fieldcamp made me realise many things I've taken for granted again. A simple shower, a tap to drink from, a proper bed to sleep on, body hygiene and a simple toilet bowl. NS has reminded me time and time again that mainland Singapore is indeed a first world country because it really sucks to get stuck outfield.

Have you ever wondered?
Why must we serve?
Because we love our land
Because we love our Sin-ga-pore. RAH!
The above is a part from a song that NSFs will learn during road marches. Fieldcamp made me realised why we must serve. The commanders talked so much touchy stuff that everyone (including me yes. I'm not emotionless) teared. Singapore has no land, we only have soil. Why must we all pick up our guns and go through the shit in fieldcamp? Because, when we pick up our guns, learn to defend it and not get stunted (by commanders or enemies), we would then be the ones protecting our loved ones from the invaders. You must think that I'm talking common sense or blabbering here. But not to worry, once you go for fieldcamp, you'd understand...

There are so many things I'd love to share here but I'm bounded by laws that prohibits me from sharing sensitive information, so sorry guys.

Till then, to those who are going into/ already in NS guys, good luck, enjoy your tekan. And to the civilians we're protecting, we have your ass covered.

Sia la. Field camp sounds damn scary. And i'm scared to the loud sound of the rifle too. Scared i go deaf. And the recoil power too.

Haha don't worry. You will only be firing LIVE rounds at range. Meaning those rounds that would actually project out a lead bullet. LIVE rounds give out more recoil and is fucking loud.

For fieldcamp/training, you'd be given blanks. They are not as loud but still loud enough to make me go deaf, and the recoil is very insignificant.
